KAMERS/Makers 2018: Our Year of The Open Hand

2018 is our “Year Of The Open Hand.” Because we truly believe that is the KAMERS/Makers difference. We’re all about the handcrafted… Each of our shows is “handmade” in the sense that every show offers something different.

To that end we unveiled two brand new venues for our Autumn Shows – St Joseph’s Marist College in Rondebosch, Cape Town from 28 February – 4 March and St David’s Marist Inanda in Sandton, Joburg from 25-29 April. Two stunning historic buildings to which we brought that inimitable KAMERS/Makers twist – 150+ Makers selling everything from hand-carved wooden bow ties and hand-turned wine-barrel furniture to hand-crafted porcelain jewellery and hand-spun scarves… add fashion, food and music and it’s the coolest stuff you’ve never seen!

The KAMERS/Makers team took a much needed breather after our record breaking Jozi show, where 16000+ people came through the doors to experience the best of SA’s artisan creativity! And now…

3 Brand New Venues for the Second Half of 2018

Our summer starts early in Bloemfontein end September where we return after years of requests from the Free State faithful. The Monte Bello Estate should prove a stunning venue for our treasure trove of local fashion, jewellery, homeware, décor and lifestyle products.

Then it’s on to our Winelands Summer Show – which moves from Anura to the fabulous Blaauwklippen Vineyards between Stellenbosch and Somerset West. We will break records again here, with almost 180 Makers on show – our biggest ever KAMERS/Makers! And, by popular demand, we will be bringing back our live music stage for this show.

As always, we close the year in Pretoria – with yet another amazing new venue – Cornwall Hill College in Irene. Just around the corner from the Open Window Institute where we’ve been for the past 6 years, this beautiful school offers us wonderful open spaces, easy access and, very importantly, plenty of secure off-street parking. The Maker Mix is still in the planning for Irene but we are looking at an even more phenomenal 200 Makers for this show.

We also believe in doing business with an open hand – one cannot give, nor receive, with a closed fist. Our proud record of launching new SA artisan entrepreneurs into the consumer market continues with dozens of never-before-seen Makers being showcased at each venue. Mzansi Makers, our non-profit initiative, got off to a fine start in 2017 with five successful projects up and running, and at least a further half-dozen scheduled and funded for 2018.

KAMERS/Makers remains a completely cashless environment, thanks to our great partners, ABSA. All credit and debit cards are accepeted, making it safer than ever to fill your free, limited edition shopper bag with unique KAMERS/Makers products.

And if the wait is getting just too long, the new and improved KAMERS Online Marketplace now makes it even easier to shop your favourite Makers right through the year at
