KAMERS/Makers Celebrates The Artisan Way
KAMERS/Makers was blessed with a record-breaking 2018 – new Makers, new venues, new cities… and our largest ever number of shoppers looking for the coolest stuff they’d never seen. The trend has continued into 2019 with our first three shows in Cape Town and Johannesburg.
Most significant – over 30% of the Makers at each of our recent shows were brand new to the artisan community (and we have even more lined up for this summer!)
As South Africans, we can all be proud that, firstly, creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship are thriving in our country; and secondly, that so many consumers appreciate the value and magic that a truly unique, locally made artisan product can offer.
So… a huge Thank You to the 50,000+ supporters who visited our shows and celebrated our commitment to local innovation and small business over the past year!
This has informed our theme for 2019: Celebrating The Artisan Way, which we are celebrating with exquisite illustrations by Fran Labuschagne.
As so many voices (including our President) have said… the future of South Africa lies in the growth of small business and a culture of entrepreneurship. And KAMERS/Makers – as SA’s favourite ‘up-market’ – will continue to spearhead this movement.
2019 kicked off in the heart of Cape Town – on trendy Kloof Street, at Jan Van Riebeeck High School. We then returned to Joburg and St David’s Marist Inanda in Sandton, where we had another successful show in April.
We are giving our largest ever number of new artisan entrepreneurs a boost in 2019, with a much-requested second Johannesburg show over Spring Week, which many called our most beautiful show yet!
Since 2003 our Boland ‘up’-market has been a highlight on the calendars of many decor, design and craft lovers. Expect nothing less as we return to the scenic Blaauwklippen Vineyards, which in 2018 proved to be one of our best-loved venues yet. We then close off the year with our ever-popular Irene event at Cornwall Hill College in Pretoria.
Each of these summer shows will see 170 or more of SA’s most creative Makers showcasing everything from handcrafted decor and fashion to artisan food and wine. As always, expect a proudly South African celebration of true artisan craft, design, and so much more… a truly inspiring experience.
Our partnership with Consol Glass is proving to be a perfect match and we have, to date, taken a staggering 120,000 plastic bottles out of circulation through the hugely popular Curvy glass bottle giveaways. Together we are removing the need for single-use plastic bottles at all our shows. Consol Glass also unveiled their pop-up shop at our St John’s event and this will be an ongoing feature at all future shows.
Your ticket to celebrating the most innovative in homeware, fashion, decor, jewellery, beauty, food, wine and more with us also includes a limited edition KAMERS/Makers shopper bag and a new magazine.
The KAMERS Online Marketplace, which won Emerging Retailer of the Year in the 2018 Online Retailer of the Year Awards, now makes it even easier to shop your favourite Makers right through the year at shop.kamersvol.com.
