Turn up the textures at KAMERS/Makers Irene

‘Tis the season to revel in beautiful things, and what better way to enjoy them than by paying tribute to the materials they are made from? Here are just a few KAMERS Makers using unique mediums to create outstanding pieces on show at KAMERS/Makers 2017 Irene from 4-10 December in Pretoria.

Let Dayfeels ceramics sweep you away with its own deep appreciation for the landscape, echoed in hand-shaped platters and bowls. Amor gives each of her pieces the care and attention worthy of an artwork, making them truly special.

Who knew such magic could be created from a simple gourd? The calabash is hollowed out and patterns are painstakingly carved into them by Dismoi, resulting in light-fittings that interior specialists are raving about. Light up your home in this unique way with a calabash light of your own.

No wonder Kaylie won the KAMERS/Makers Award for Best Young Entrepreneur at St John’s earlier this year!

Tell your story on beautifully created stationery and send notes to the ones you love, sure in the knowledge that each design by Liberty Bespoke is done lovingly, on environmentally friendly and responsible paper.

We know it best as a wine bottle stopper, but this material is also marvellous for many other applications. In fact, Leefi Haute Design‘s sister duo, Odette and Sulandè, uses cork to create a range of outstanding fashion accessories, including handbags, belts and wallets. Not only is cork an interesting material, it’s an eco-friendly, sustainable and totally vegan option.

When it comes to jewellery, rubber is probably the last thing you’d think of, but not for local jewellery design brand Iloni. Madri uses a range of alternative materials to create jewellery with a distinctive look and feel – and we absolutely love it.

Look out for more makers at KAMERS/Makers Irene, 4 to 10 December at Southdowns College, Pretoria.
