The Coolest Kiddies’ Stuff at KAMERS/Makers Irene

KAMERS/Makers might be aimed more at adults, but there are always plenty of youngsters wandering wide-eyed through the stalls with their parents in tow or enjoying the delectable goodies from one of our food stands.

The coolest stuff you’ve never seen isn’t for adults only and of course there are plenty of wonderful KAMERS Makers catering to the smallest members. We take a look at just a few of them showcasing their wares at KAMERS/Makers Irene from 4-10 December:

Get All Dressed Up

The summer season is mostly for romping in the sun and water, but when it’s time to get cleaned up and looking presentable, best you have an outfit from Tractors and Tiaras ready. This gorgeous range of children’s clothing offers outfits with a vintage flair. Button up shirts, suspenders and bowtie sets, hats and shoes are just some of the items available and just about all of it is handmade. These also pair perfectly with accessories from Harvey Max or Houtkappers.

For those more casual dates, look for Mevrou & Co’s kids collection of tees with slogans like “Releks” and “Sê dankie vir die tannie” just a few of the fun and cheeky options available.

Santa’s Workshop

At this time of year, it’s absolutely necessary to have a few toy options available and our makers have certainly brought their A-game. Make sure you check out the range of hand-carved wooden toys at Houtkappers, from beach bats (ideal for that beach holiday you’re about to go on) and aeroplanes, to swords and guns, and even gorgeous wooden rattles for baby. Also available in the KAMERS Online Marketplace.

For those youngsters who love a dolly to cuddle, Shwe Shwe Poppis is a great place to look for the perfect doll. The dolls are based on a series of original children’s drawings produced by the kids at the African Children’s Feeding Scheme’s Malnutrition and Rehabilitation Creche in Zola, Soweto using brightly coloured African wax cloth. They truly are wonderful little works of art that offer their own soulfulness. By purchasing a Shwe Shwe Poppi, you are supporting an amazing community initiative!

Snuggle up at Night

There’s very little that beats being wrapped up in a hand-knitted blanket after an active day in the sunshine. Support Blankets from Africa, which is created to support women living in the Karoo to produce beautiful products from wool sheared from the sheep they farm. You can also support this project via the KAMERS Online Marketplace.

Kids in a Candy Store

What would a market be without a little sugary goodness? Make sure you take your little one past Darling Sweet to select their favourite toffee flavours, from Tannie Evita’s Classic Toffee to Orange & Cranberry flavour, there’s something yummy for everyone. And don’t forget their delicious new toffee shakes in flavours like Honey & Salt or Chilli & Coconut! Also look out for Ma Mere, Ooh La La and newcomers Basilei.

Float Down the River

Every kid knows that Mom will get a little testy if they take their pillow swimming, but the miracle that is the PoolPillow changes all that. Let the kids spend hours in the pool balancing on this pool friendly cushion which is designed to be pretty hard-wearing when it comes to games in the water. They make great gifts too!

Cool by the Pool

Every young man needs to look his best when at the water’s edge. Temple of Reason is offering its Tiny Temple range of swimming trunks for boys exclusively at KAMERS/Makers. Make sure you get a pair (or three)! Also look out for trendy girls’ swimwear from Just Jump.

Look out for more makers at KAMERS/Makers Irene, 4 to 10 December at Southdowns College, Pretoria.
